Galveston Council Member Arrested for DWI, Resisting Jason Hardcastle, Galveston’s District 6 city council member, faces Driving While Intoxicated and Resisting A Lawful Search charges following a crash Friday (10/30/2026) night. At about 8:15 PM, Galveston Police were called to a two-vehicle crash in the 6800 block of Seawall Boulevard. One of the drivers was Hardcastle. The officer responding to the crash reported that, as they were investigating the crash, they observed “signs of possible intoxication.” Hardcastle refused to take a breathalyzer, so Galveston police obtained a search warrant for a blood draw, Galveston Police Department Public Information Officer Kurt Koopmann said in a written statement. Hardcastle was arrested on suspicion of intoxicated driving and taken to UTMB for the blood draw. He was the only person in his vehicle and those in the other vehicle were uninjured, officials said. While there, officers reported that Hardcastle physically resisted attempts by the medical staff to conduct the blood draw. His reported actions led to an additional charge. Hardcastle is charged with the Class B misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated/First Offense and Resisting Arrest/Search/Transport, a Class A misdemeanor. He was booked into the Galveston County Jail and was released after posting bonds totaling $2,500. “Mr. Hardcastle is a respected member of our community, a devoted family man, and a man of faith whose commitment to God, his family, and his community has been a guiding principle throughout his life,” Hardcastle’s attorney, Jonathan Zendeh Del, said in a written statement. “He has never previously been arrested. It is important to remember that consuming alcohol and then driving is not, by itself, a crime in Texas. “The law prohibits driving while intoxicated, and that distinction is significant. These cases are often complex and involve extensive scientific evidence and legal issues that speculation or public opinion cannot resolve.”
