HCA Breaks Ground on $100 million Expansion of Clear Lake Hospital Citing ever-growing patient demand, HCA Healthcare Houston’s Clear Lake hospital has a ceremonial groundbreaking for a planned $100 million expansion of its hospital. Clear Lake CEO Todd Caliva said the vertical expansion of three additional floors will add nearly 132,000 square feet to the hospital, roughly 54 hospital beds that would give the hosputal 586 hospital beds. It will feature an expanded medical surgery bed unit, cancer treatment floor and a 30 bed neuroscience floor, which will include 16 additional Neuro intensive care unit rooms. It will also include an expansion of its Women’s Health Center that would double that center’s space. Caliva said the expansion is “just phase 1” as HCA plans to expand its heart center and add more hospital space. He said the total investment committed to all phases tops $200 million. Caliva said the patient growth is due to more and more patients not wanting to go to the Texas Medical Center for advanced medical care and preferring to stay closer to home. The expansion comes as HCA Healthcare Houston, the lone hospital in Clear Lake for decades, sees more medical centers from UTMB Health, Methodist, and Memorial Hermann, which have all built or expanded hospitals in Clear Lake in the last five years.
