'Galveston Wind' Returns to Stage for 125th Anniversary of 1900 Storm Galveston Lighthouse Productions will present "Galveston Wind" at the Scottish Rite Cathedral from September 9-13, 2025, to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the 1900 Storm. The play, a fictionalized account based on real family stories, was written by the late John Meiners Jr. The show is directed by Samuel Goroshko, president and artistic director of the production company. This marks the play's third time being performed, and the first time in Galveston. This show also serves as a memorial to Meiners, who passed away after seeing the show's last production in 2021. Many of the cast members have a personal connection to the storm like Vivian Ortiz. Ortiz is a 7th-generation Galvestonian whose great-great uncle designed the 1900 Storm statue on the seawall. On opening night, Tuesday (09/09/2025), a candlelight vigil will be held to honor the lives lost. Tickets are available online at galvestonlighthouseproductions.org. Galveston Lighthouse Productions gives 50% of its proceeds back to the community.
