Firefighters jump into Galveston Bay to pull burning boat away from pier * Fire crews from San Leon, Bacliff, Kemah, League City and Nassau Bay tackle stubborn boat fire Fire crews from San Leon, Bacliff, League City and Kemah responded to a boat fire in a shoreline neighborhood in the Bacliff/San Leon area on Sunday (8/3/2025) The fire was first reported at about 1:55 PM when Galveston County Sheriff’s Office deputies noticed a black column of smoke rising near Galveston Bay. Then several people called 911 to report the boat and boathouse fire. Eventually, it was confirmed that a boat was inside a boathouse in the 2600 block of E. Bayshore Drive. Firefighters initially struggled to get firehoses to the boathouse. The boathouse was destroyed, and the vessel, as it was ablaze, drifted to a neighboring dock, forcing firefighters to scramble to prevent the fire from spreading to another pier. At one point, firefighters jumped into the water and with their bare hands tied off ropes to tug the boat away from the pier. They were then able to get a line to fireboats that tugged the boat away from the dock while it was still on fire. There were no reports of injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation San Leon Volunteer Fire Department Lt. Kyle Davis said
