Healing House Unveils New Wellness Studio, Bringing Unique Ashi Thai Massage and Private Acupuncture to Galveston Healing House, a burgeoning center for holistic health on Galveston Island, held a ribbon-cutting on Monday (06/23/2025) for its latest expansion: a dedicated studio offering private acupuncture and a distinctive form of Ashi Thai massage. This new addition, located at 18th and Market Street, aims to further broaden the accessible wellness options for the community. Clint McCallum, owner of Hooked on Acupuncture and Healing House, described the expansion as part of an ongoing effort to introduce diverse healing modalities to Galveston. "We're doing stuff here that I don't think anybody else is really doing around here," McCallum said, emphasizing the unique nature of the Ashi Thai massage. Leading the new Ashi Thai massage practice is Melissa, a seasoned massage therapist with over 25 years of experience, including 15 years in Thai massage in Asheville, North Carolina. Melissa recently relocated to Galveston to care for her mother and, after a period of being a full-time caregiver, decided to resume her work, which she describes as something she "really need[s] in my life." Her sessions, available Mondays and Fridays, are designed to be personalized, drawing on her extensive background. What sets Melissa's Ashi Thai apart is her innovative approach: performing the traditional floor-based modality on a massage table. This allows her to utilize overhead bars for balance, enabling deeper pressure while maintaining a comforting and gentle touch. "Even though it's Thai massage, and I think a lot of times people hear Thai massages being painful, it's really a very relaxing, meditative art that could be deep at times, which is when it's needed," Melissa explained. She expressed enthusiasm for building a new practice in Galveston. Hooked on Acupuncture, McCallum's primary business, has been a fixture in Galveston for 12 years and moved to its current location approximately a year ago. The building now also houses the Healing House yoga studio upstairs, creating a comprehensive wellness environment. McCallum's journey into acupuncture was deeply personal, stemming from a car accident nearly two decades ago that led him to switch from chiropractic studies to acupuncture, a path he recognized as his true calling. "It's kind of a community healing kind of vibe that we're working on," McCallum noted, highlighting that the services, including community-style acupuncture, are designed to be affordable and accessible to a wide range of people. He added, "We're not getting rich doing this, but we're bringing something new to these parts." The expansion with Melissa's unique Ashi Thai massage further solidifies Healing House's commitment to providing a variety of innovative and community-focused healing experiences in Galveston.
