Texas Outlaw Challenge revs up the engine for a weekend of community and competition The Texas Outlaw Challenge festivities, which kicked off Wednesday and runs through the weekend, and has everything from a street party in Kemah to a lively powerboat shootout, where boats from 17 categories compete in a straight-line sprint for prizes and bragging rights. Event promoter, Jolanta Mazewski-Dryden, said, “It’s all about showcasing these incredible boats. Some of them are worth a million dollars and feature the most jaw-dropping artwork.” While the four-day event brings out a crowd of speed boating lovers who enjoy the thrill. The Texas Outlaw challenge enriches and supports local communities by donating to various charities, said Mazewski-Dryden. Chris and Jenny Cotter, Texas Outlaw Challenge attendees, said that boating is a part of their way of life and couldn’t imagine a time without their boat, “Memory Maker”. “We meet a lot of good people on the water,” said Cotter. “When you look out, there’s nothing but water in front of you. We go all the way straight across the Gulf, and it’s fantastic.” With a crowd in the hundreds, Mazewski-Dryden said that the Texas Outlaw Challenge continues to gain popularity mostly by word of mouth. “It’s grown because people have heard about it and they want to be a part of it.’’
