Galveston Hosts Eighth Annual World Ocean Day Festival Galveston held its Eighth World Ocean Day Festival Saturday (6/7/2025)) focusing on ocean stewardship and education. "We have 20 non-profit exhibitors out here with interactive activities, discussing ocean stewardship," said World Ocean Day’s Todd Cleveland. World Ocean Day, happens annually on the weekend of June 8th. Galveston's festival has grown significantly. "This is our eighth year," Cleveland noted. This year's festival includes NOAA and the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, discussing deep-sea ecosystems and coral reef rebuilding post-Deepwater Horizon. The event also features live entertainment and a "Beautify the Bucket Barrel" contest. Artist Boat, a local non-profit focusing on eco-art education and land conservation, is a key participant. They protect coastal areas through programs like weekend ventures, Beach Brigades, and summer camps. Artist Boat is also launching "A Deal in a Million," a fundraising campaign to buy an additional 204 acres for their Coastal Heritage Preserve.
