SWAT standoff with armed man ends in Texas City; suspect dead from self-inflicted gunshot A nearly six-hour standoff with a gunman who shot a woman and opened fire on police officers ended Monday morning after the suspect was found dead inside a north side house in Texas City on Monday (4/21/2025). Texas City police responded to a shooting overnight Monday (4/21/2025) after a child called 911 to report a fight happening outside the house. When officers arrived at the house in the 400 block of 27th Avenue North at about 1 AM, someone opened fire at police, Texas City Assistant Chief Manuel Johnson said. The shooter retreated into the house and fired several more shots. A woman who was wounded by gunfire escaped the house and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Nearby houses were evacuated as police secured the area. The Texas City Police Department Crisis Team and SWAT responded to the scene. Since the scene is near Levi Fry Intermediate School in Texas City, ISD Communications Director Melissa Tortoricci said alternate school bus routes have been developed, and the district’s sheriff’s office school liaison deputies are assisting. She said that if there are any student walkers or bicyclists, the deputies are visible and can assist as needed. There were no interruptions to operations at the Fry campus. At about 7:30 AM, Texas City SWAT breached the house and found the suspect dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
