Blue Jeanes finds he’s a good fit as “Voice” of Galveston County Fair rodeo It’s rodeo weekend at the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo. Rodeo Cowboys and Cowgirls will ride bucking broncs and rope steers and race around barrels. And calling all the action will be a former rodeo bullfighter turned voice of the rodeo. Robert Jeanes is known around the rodeo circuit as Blue Jeanes, a nickname he received from his father, Bob, a former rodeo announcer known as "Mr. Green Jeanes" and "Levi.” So Jeanes’ dad figured the nickname Blue was a good fit. Sitting on his perch outside the rodeo announcer booth, Jeanes introduces the rodeo to the audience, offering highlights and some education about each of the competitions. Jeanes said he is honored to be the announcer because the GCFR rodeo is among the highest-paying Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association rodeos. Additionally, Jeanes has a history with the Galveston County Fairgrounds from professional bullfighting (rodeo clown) in the same arena (albeit at a time when there was no roof) in the 1990s. He was a professional bullfighter for 25 years before transitioning to announcing after his retirement in 2020. He grew up in Dayton and lived in Winnie, but moved to Stephenville to be closer to his daughter while she attends Tarleton State University. Jeanes said he has 42 rodeos booked this year, several like Galveston County, where he worked as a bullfighter. That’s for later. This weekend, he’ll be on his announcer’s perch on Friday (4/11/2025) and Saturday (4/12/2025) and said he looks forward to returning in 2026.
