Police seek suspect who ran over La Marque officer during pursuit A La Marque police officer was injured Wednesday night after a fleeing suspect ran him over during a pursuit. Police said they need the public’s help in identifying the suspect. Officer Shawn Lozica, the head of La Marque PD’s Crime Suppression Unit, was on patrol on Fairwood Road when he tried to stop a dark-colored Lincoln sedan. The car sped off, prompting a police pursuit. At one point, the driver made a drift move with the Lincoln sedan, at which point the passenger jumped out. The passenger was hit by the car but was able to take off on foot. He was later apprehended. When Lozica approached the vehicle on foot while it was stopped, the suspect attempted to drive off and ran over the officer. Lozica was treated and released from a local hospital after the pursuit, and returned to work Thursday, the next day. The officer was knocked to the ground, and as it appeared the driver was going to drive over the officer again, Lozica drew his service weapon and pointed it at the driver. In response the driver put the vehicle in reverse, before fleeing again in his vehicle, where Lozica got up and continued to pursue him. The driver ultimately crashed into a fence in the Borondo Pines subdivision, where he fled on foot, and escaped. Anybody who recognizes the man or has information about the pursuit should contact La Marque Crime Stoppers at 409-938-8477, or visit p3tips.com. Deputy Chief Chad Waggoner with La Marque police stated that "if violent crime is committed in La Marque and especially when one of our own is assaulted, we won't stop until the suspect is in custody, and if anybody is caught harboring a suspect, they will also be charged." Lozica was treated and released from the hospital the night of the pursuit and returned to work on Thursday.
