League City officer charged with family assault, interfering with emergency response UPDATED 5:20 PM: Additional charges filed against officer A League City police officer was jailed Thursday (2/27/2025) on misdemeanor charges stemming from a family assault incident. Officer Matthew Pearson, 35, who’s been with the department for almost 4 years, is charged with the Class C misdemeanor assault by contact-family violence. He is also charged with a Class A Misdemeanor Interference with Emergency Request for Assistance charge. The League City Police Department did not release details of what led to the charges. Pearson is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation. The criminal investigation is now in the hands of the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, per League City Police Chief Cliff Woitena's request. It was the Sheriffs office investigation that led to additional charges against Pearson. The League City Police Department also is conducting a professional standards investigation.
