Jury says woman who shot boyfriend during argument at Clear Lake Shores marina not guilty of murder * Legal team relied on self-defense argument A Galveston County jury on Tuesday (2/11/2025), took less than two hours to declare a woman not guilty in the killing of her boyfriend in 2022. Donna Parker, 40, faced murder charges in connection to the shooting death of her boyfriend Luther Figgs, 45, aboard the couple’s boat berthed at the Watergate Yachting Center on May 18, 2022. Parker maintained she was defending herself and that Figgs would often go into rages and she would feel threatened and fearful. Defense attorney Natalie Holt of the Zendeh Del & Associates described Figgs as someone with mental health issues and demonic when he acted like a “bear on the attack” She also questioned the handling of evidence and the case overall by Galveston County Sheriff’s Office investigates. The case gained public attention, with supporters of Figgs closely following developments. A Facebook group dedicated to the case remained active throughout the two-and-a-half-year legal process, reflecting the emotional weight of the trial in the community. The prosecution, led by Tyler Alley of the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, presented evidence suggesting that Payne did not act in lawful self-defense. The most poignant obstacle of the case was Figgs final resting position upon being found dead. Authorities and photos depict Figgs sitting with his legs crossed. Ultimately, the jury found the self defense argument the most plausible. “Self-defense is alive and well in Texas,” said Jonathan Zendeh Del, a defense attorney on the case. “This verdict sends a message to every physical and verbal abuser that when you cross the line, Texas law supports self-defense.”
