Teen murder suspects denied bond, ask for court-appointed attorneys during magistrate hearing Sitting roughly 60 feet apart, teenage murder suspects Kara King, 17, and her boyfriend Uriah Urick, 18, made their first appearance before a judge on Tuesday (2/11/2025). The young couple faces capital murder charges in the death of Tara King’s grandmother, Tammy Sue King, 61. Tara King lived with her grandmother in Bacliff. Magistrate Judge Stephen Baker denied bond for each. Both requested court-appointed attorneys, although Urick told the judge he wanted one until his mother could retain a defense attorney. Tara King, who sat cross-legged on the jailhouse steel benches before the hearing, was soft-spoken and, even with a microphone, hard to hear. King and Urick face capital murder charges. They were apprehended in Laredo on Sunday after Tammy King was found nude in her house after being shot in the head, officials said. In a probable cause affidavit used to secure capital murder charges, Galveston County Sheriff’s Office deputies described a ransacked house, missing guns, and a nude murder victim on the floor of her Bacliff residence in the overnight hours of February 8 as they investigated the murder of Tammy Sue King, 62, in Bacliff. King's boyfriend called the deputies to King’s residence around 11:56 PM on Friday, February 7. He told deputies he had not spoken with King since the morning of Feb. 5. The man, with permission from a deputy - went into King’s house and found the woman’s body. According to the probable cause affidavit used to arrest King’s granddaughter Tara King, 17, and the teen’s boyfriend Uriah Urick, 18, the young couple attempted to transfer several thousand dollars from Tammy Sue King's bank account using payment apps such as CashApp. According to the affidavit, Urick’s mother told investigators that Tara King often spoke about how she hated her grandmother and wanted to kill her. Urick’s mother also told investigators she believed her son was capable of murdering Tammy King.
