Bacliff Murder Victim Identified, Suffered Gunshot Wound A 61-year-old woman found dead in a Bacliff home on Friday (2/7/2025) has been identified as Tammy Sue King. King sustained a gunshot wound, although an official cause of death remains unannounced. Galveston County Sheriff’s Office investigators said a 17-year-old teen and her 18-year-old boyfriend are “persons of interest” in the homicide of King. It was around 11 PM on Thursday (2/6/2025) that a close friend of the woman who died called the sheriff’s office to report that she had not been in contact for several days. Chief Deputy Mel Villareal said that deputies went by the house in the 4700 block of 15th Street for a welfare check at about 1 AM on Friday (2/7/2025). That’s when the body of King was found inside the house. Because King was found alone, the sheriff’s office launched a homicide investigation, which is common in cases of unattended death. At first, detectives had little information to indicate that King's death was the result of a criminal act. Galveston County Medical Examiner John Florence, however, spent three hours on the scene and working with sheriff’s office detectives, determined foul play resulted in King's death. One piece of evidence was that the woman’s granddaughter Tara King, 17, and her boyfriend Uriah Ureck, 18, were also listed as residents of the house, but they could not be found, Villareal said. Tara King is the granddaughter of Tammy King, neighbors confirmed. The sheriff’s office issued a persons of interest notice for King and Ureck on Friday afternoon. Anyone with information about King and Ureck's whereabouts or the homicide should call Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Detective Hudson at (409) 766-2322.
