Motorcyclist killed after crashing into dump truck on Gulf Freeway in Texas City Texas City police on Saturday (2/1/2025) were investigating a fatality after a collision of a motorcycle with a dump truck. The crash happened at about 10:30 AM on the I-45 northbound service road near Hughes Road. Texas City Police Lt. Brad Macik confirmed the motorcycle rider was killed in the crash. Initial information from the investigation indicates that the Williams Brother dump truck was headed north on the I-45 service road and was entering a construction area to its left when a northbound motorcycle crashed into the truck. It was unconfirmed if the truck had its turn signal activated. Police were also unable to confirm whether the motorcycle was speeding or trying to pass the dump truck at the time of the crash. Macik confirmed that the dump truck involved is part of the construction crews working on the ongoing expansion of I-45. Williams Brothers is the primary contractor for the I-45 expansion project. All northbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway service road between Hughes Road and FM 517 were closed to traffic until about 2 PM. The fatal crash was one of three crashes that caused significant traffic delays on the Gulf Freeway on Saturday. The traffic backups hampered some emergency vehicles' access to the fatal crash scene.
