Kemah starts 2025 with infrastructure upgrades and business growth Kemah Mayor Pro-Tem Isaac Saldaña spoke on optimism for Kemah as the city begins 2025 with momentum, thanks to infrastructure improvements and an upswing in business activity. The reopening of the highway, which had been a problem for residents and visitors alike, has sparked a revival in local commerce. "We're thankfully past the 146th Road Construction, which was about a three- or four-year deterrent for Kemah," said Saldaña. "Now that it's opened, it’s opened up a lot of business." Several new projects are set to spark the city. A Lupe Tortilla location at the intersection of Highway 96 and 146 is expected to anchor a new corridor, attracting restaurants and retail businesses to the area. The Kemah Boardwalk is also in discussions for expansion, though Saldaña did not elaborate. Infrastructure upgrades are further fueling optimism. Evergreen Memorial Parkway, a newly constructed road connecting Highway 96 and 518, and the near-completion of the Anders Road Reconstruction project, promise improved access to the city. Kemah's leadership has been proactive in planning for a brighter future. A mural park was installed in the entertainment district, adding vibrant public art to the cityscape, and a 57-acre award-winning nature facility is under development. "There were a lot of things we were working on with the foresight that better times were coming," said Saldaña. "We wanted to be ready for it, and now those seeds are starting to bear fruit." Kemah’s proactive planning has set the stage for the year ahead. As Saldaña summed it up: “Everything is looking very promising. It’s on the up and up.”
