New Year’s Eve party altercation preceded shooting in La Marque UPDATED 6 PM 1/1/2025 • Arrest made after La Marque man shot multiple times in his car A 26-year-old man was arrested and faces two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon accused of opening fire on a car following a New Year’s Ave Party on Tuesday (12/31/2024), La Marque police said. The shooting happened at about 10:15 PM. Samuel Justin Helton is accused of firing several rounds into a white Ford Mustang as it drove away from a party in the 300 block of Comanche Plains Road, Deputy Chief Chad Waggoner said. Witnesses told La Marque investigators that before the shooting, there was an altercation at the party. Police are following various leads and witness accounts about the altercation, including a domestic argument that took place before the shooting. What led to the altercation and shooting had not been confirmed as of Wednesday (1/1/2025) night. The car was hit several times and crashed in the 100 block of Indigo Brush Drive. The man driving the car was shot three times and was in critical condition after being taken to a hospital. The gun believed used in the shooting was also recovered, Waggoner said.
