Super Bowl Champ Evans provides early Thanksgiving for dozens in his hometown of Galveston Dozens of Galveston residents were served an early Thanksgiving meal Saturday (11/16/1024), compliments of a foundation founded by Galveston native and Super Bowl champion Mike Evans. Evans, who was drafted out of Texas A&M by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014, and his wife Ashli started hosting the pre-holiday meal three years ago, Josephine Edwards, a Mike Evans Family Foundation member, said the luncheon recognizes all Evans’ mother, Heather Kilgore, has done over the years for those less fortunate in the community, even as she raised Evans and his siblings as a single mother. One man who dined on Turkey, dressing, and all the Thanksgiving fixings said he appreciated the effort. “I wish more NFL players from Galveston would do something like this,” the man said. “It doesn’t matter, white, black. Everyone is welcome. That’s a blessing for Galveston.” Evans, who has spent much of the season nursing a hamstring injury. He’s expected to return to the field in two weeks. Evans, drafted seventh overall in the 2014 draft, scored six touchdowns in seven games before he was injured in Week 7.
