La Marque police investigating case of a woman kidnapped at gunpoint in Sam’s parking lot • Woman taken to League City neighborhood; suspect caught A La Marque man is in the Galveston County jail after police said he kidnapped a woman at gunpoint on Friday (9/20/2024) during a robbery in the Sam’s parking lot. La Marque police said Edmond Wayne Porter, 53, abducted a woman at gunpoint in the parking lot of Sam’s Club, 6614 Interstate 45 in La Marque. Based on initial police reports, a gunman approached the woman in the parking lot of Sam’s in a robbery attempt. That escalated to kidnapping, police said. She was taken to a neighborhood in League City but managed to escape. The kidnapped woman was able to get to a phone located at a house next door to where she had been taken in League City. Police said she was physically OK, but obviously shaken up by the ordeal. There is no indication the woman knows or had any connection to the accused kidnapper. It is unclear if the woman lived in the neighborhood or that the house she was taken to is connected to the gunman. League City police searched the neighborhood and eventually apprehended the suspect and recovered a handgun, police said. La Marque police are leading the investigation since the aggravated kidnapping happened in that city. Porter was in the Galveston County Jail on bonds totaling $500,750. He is charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping. He also has an outstanding warrant from Deer Park.
