Ex-Galveston cop involved in poolside rage incident jailed after indictment Former Galveston Police Department Police Officer Jared Rivas arrived at the Galveston Police Department Wednesday afternoon to be booked on multiple charges stemming from a poolside rage incident earlier this summer. A Galveston County Grand Jury indicted the fired officer on 3 felony charges and 5 misdemeanors. Rivas is charged with two felony counts of injury to a child and a felony charge of unlawful restraint. He is also charged with four misdemeanor assaults and a Class A misdemeanor charge of official oppression. The grand jury indictments were issued Tuesday (9/17/2024) morning. He was booked into the Galveston County Jail on bonds totaling $175,500. Rivas is charged for his part in confronting people attending a poolside birthday party at the apartment complex he worked as a courtesy officer. That confrontation escalated, and video recorded by people at the party shows Rivas attacking some teenagers without provocation. Another video shows Rivas beating a man who was already in custody and handcuffs after other officers arrived.
