FULL INTERVIEW: Defense reacts to start of testimonies in Santa Fe shooting civil trial The first set of testimonies came Thursday (8/1/2024) in the Santa Fe High School shooting civil trial. A former student that was in the closest with Chris Stone and Kyle McLeod spoke, along with a number of law enforcement. “I would have done it differently,” said defense attorney, Lori Laird, after hearing law enforcement talk about their response to the shooting. Laird herself was a police officer for a number of years. She said that SFISD online denied her opening argument that the district and school did next to nothing. “I welcome them to come and join us because I have two giant binders full of information.” She said that her clients, Antonios Pagourtzis and Rose Marie Kosmetatos will definitely take the stand during this trial. In Thursday’s (8/1/2024) testimonies, Isabelle Laymance, a former Santa Fe student, started things off. She was in the closet with Chris Stone and Kyle McLeod when they were killed. After was former Galveston County Sheriff Office Sergeant Brent Cooley, who responded to the scene and handcuffed the shooter. The court also heard from Deputy Constable Brian Gately Pct 2, who was among the first to respond to the shooting. Former Santa Fe ISD Police Officer John Barnes also took the stand. He was shot while responding to shooting. He witnessed Flo Rice and Ann Perkins get shot, which resulted in Rice being injured and Perkins died.
