Man on trial for Capital Murder case in Kemah An altercation that led to the shooting death of two people landed a man in a Galveston County courtroom to face his Capital Murder charge. Mark Anthony Vigil, 20, of Houston, was charged with Capital Murder in the November 17, 2022 shooting at the Summerbrooke Apartments in Kemah. Opening statements came Tuesday (7/30/2024) in the 405th District Court with Judge Jared Robinson, presiding. Before things got underway Wednesday (7/31/2024), the judge sent the jury home for the day, as Vigil’s attorney Greg Russell needed to review new evidence that the prosecutors had. Just before midnight on November 17, 2022, Galveston County Sheriff’s deputies found Richard Rocco, 55, with multiple gunshot wounds. Rocco was transported to HCA Clear Lake where he died. Investigators later discovered that an additional suspect named Joshua Rojas, 17, was also shot during the altercation. Rojas was transported by Vigil to a South Houston residence, and was then taken by a family member to a Pasadena area hospital where he died. Vigil was located and arrested in Houston and transported to the Galveston County Jail on the charge of Capital Murder with a $500,000 bond. All will returned Thursday (8/1/2024) to continue with trial.
