Future Santa Fe Ten Memorial to be on campus after agreement with district 6 years after 10 people were gunned down at Santa Fe High School, the school district has finally agreed to keep the future memorial site on campus. This was a huge milestone, as there is now a definitive location where the 10 will be honored. Former Club Hope Member and Santa Fe High graduate, Tyler Long was shown the video moments before the interview. “This is so symbolic of what we stand for in Santa Fe,” Long said. The design was shown for the first time in public at the Run In Remembrance in Hitchcock, Saturday (5/18/2024). “There is no blueprint for how a community recovers,” said Megan Grove, Chair of the Santa Fe Ten Memorial Foundation. She worked with other memorial committees to figure out the best way to dedicate the area to the 10. “The new concept has a lot of aspects that are going to benefit everybody,” Santa Fe ISD Board Trustee James Grassmuck said. “Now it’s time to try and raise some money.” Fundraising was put on pause at one point because of the issues finding a permanent home, but things have kicked back up. The foundation has raised just north of $125K out of a total needed for the memorial of $2.5 million. Grove said they are on a 2-year fundraising campaign plan.
