Pastors discuss lasting impact of COVID-19 on mental health May is nationally recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month, which also coincided with the first anniversary of Nova Vita Mental Wellness Center, which is located at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Nassau Bay. Gloria Dei pastors Dan Schepmann and Randy Miller, the Nova Vita board of directors, donors and community members, gathered Wednesday (5/15/2024) for a luncheon, an update on the center and information on the mental health issues facing the Greater Houston area which Nova Vita serves. The pastors noted that the center welcomes anyone in the community in need of mental health services and doesn't limit counseling to church members or city residents. Though the country is moving past the COVID-19 pandemic, the pastors said, the impacts of the pandemic have added to the mental health issues therapists at Nova Vita encounter. COVID gathering restrictions led many to feel anxiety, depression, isolation and loneliness, Miller said, which have lingered as technological advances such as remote meetings became the norm. Schepmann said people were created as three-dimensional beings who need face-to-face interaction, rather than communicating through two-dimensional technologies such as Zoom or Facetime.
