Nova Vita Mental Wellness Center celebrates anniversary May is recognized nationally as Mental Health Awareness Month and Nova Vita Mental Health Awareness Center celebrated its first anniversary Wednesday (5/15/2024) with a luncheon at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Nassau Bay. Nova Vita was the brainchild of two pastors at Gloria Dei, senior pastor Dan Schepmann and care and connections pastor Randy Miller. Mental health issues often don't receive the attention - and more importantly, treatment - they deserve, Schepmann said. The pastors began building a team of board members, therapists, donors and community members to get their dream off the ground going back about three or four years ago. While the center's offices are located on-site at the Life Center of Gloria Dei, 18220 Upper Bay Road in Nassau Bay, Schepmann and Miller said the services are available to anyone in need, regardless of faith, background or ability to pay. One of the drawbacks to many seeking mental health services, Miller said, is the cost of therapy to address underlying issues the individual may be facing. The Nova Vita board of directors raises funds to help patients cover at least a portion of the services provided through events where donations are welcomed. Oftentimes, finding a cure for those issues is not something that can be unearthed in a session or two. Digging in and uncovering the issues in an individual's psyche can take weeks, months or years to bring to light. Miller and Schepmann also spoke to i45NOW about the impacts of virtual employment and education which came about during the COVID-19 pandemic in a story that will be posted Thursday (5/16/2024). i45NOW in partnership with the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, in support of local businesses, produces business profiles to promote new members.
