Galveston County Jail inmate dead after apparent hanging A 60-year-old Galveston County Jail inmate was found dead in his cell Thursday (4/25/2024). The inmate, who was alone in his cell, died from an apparent hanging, Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset said. Jailers found him in the cell at about 1:04 PM, the sheriff said. He was taken to the emergency center at UTMB Health’s John Sealy Hospital but did not survive. He died around 2 PM. It had not been determined how long he had been in the cell before being found by jailers, the sheriff said. Indications are the man used a piece of clothing to kill himself, the sheriff said. The Texas Rangers and the Galveston County District Attorney are investigating the death. The inmate's name or details of the charges he faced were not released pending notification of his immediate family.
