Market Mile Fun Run draws hundreds and showcases student gardeners Hundreds of Galveston residents and visitors participated in the Market Mile Fun Run on Sunday (04/14/2024). Sponsored by Galveston’s Own Farmers Market, located at 3304 Market Street, the fun run comprised a one-mile loop that started and ended at the farmers market. All levels, ages and speeds of runners and walkers were welcome. They could opt for a run or a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood, stopping at historical spots identified by Galveston Unscripted. At the end of the race, walkers and runners enjoyed happenings at the market, like drinks, food, live music, face-painting, and shopping for great deals in farm-fresh vegetables, meats, baked goods and more. In addition, there were presentations by high school interns from SEED (Students for Eco-Empowerment and Diversity. The hundreds of spectators heard what the students learned in their internships. Proceeds benefit Galveston’s Own Farmers Market’s Food Access Programming, including SNAP-matching and other voucher programs that aim to bring good food to all. https://galvestonsownfarmersmarket.com/younggardeners
