Galveston County Fair and Rodeo makes its return Friday afternoon The Galveston County Fair and Rodeo will open its gates for the 2024 season, Friday (4/12/2024) at 4 PM. That means nine days of carnival rides, food, livestock auctions, concerts, rodeo events and much more for all in the area to come out and enjoy. Commercial exhibit superintendent on the fair and rodeo’s executive board, Albert Ramirez said that on Wednesday’s (4/17/2024) junior auction night, there will be a junior rough stock event, like steer riding. Ramirez said the auction is “very important” for multiple reasons; FFA students get to sell their livestock, the fair and rodeo raises funds, and in return they give out scholarships. Sales from the auctions raise more than $1 million dollars annually, Ramirez said. In return, $80,000 worth of scholarships are given out to the FFA students, who are seniors and applied for one. Weekend one is the seafood cook off, while next weekend will be the barbecue cook off. In the rodeo arena, there will be events over the next nine days like mutton bustin’, barrel racing, country roping and more.
