Galveston rocks its new Music Friendly Texas Community certification In a state where one can enjoy a live performance by Asleep at the Wheel at an airport while waiting for a flight, it was just a matter of time until Galveston’s vibrant music scene was recognized and the city named a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office. At a presentation at The Grand 1894 Opera House on Monday (Feb. 26, 2024), Galveston received its official designation. The event featured live performances by local artists, including Fanfare Lutheran Academy, the Galveston Community Band and Louis Morales. The Music Friendly Texas Certified Community Program, pioneered by the Texas Music Office in 2016, aims to foster music business-related economic development and job creation across the state. Galveston is now the 58th community on this esteemed list.
