Krewes have one last hurrah in the Fat Tuesday parade For 40 years, the first two weekends before Fat Tuesday were designed to welcome visitors to Galveston Island for beads, parades and entertainment. But for the actual celebration on the day before Lent starts, there was little to say about Mardi Gras in Galveston. That was until some adventurous local krewes decided to have a Fat Tuesday parade, especially designed for locals. For 30 years, the Krewe Of Aquarius Fat Tuesday parade has been a hallmark in closing out the Mardi Gras season in Galveston . Krewe Captain Johnny Lidstone said the original procession had more people in the parade instead of on the sidewalks. Within a couple of years, that switched in the other direction. While his krewe hosts it, this was an all krewe parade as many have joined in over the years. Tuesday night, there was bands, floats, dance teams and many krewes joining in on the fun. i45NOW Mardi Gras 2024 coverage sponsored by VisitGalveston.com. What's your Island Time?
