Dickinson man found not guilty in shooting death of his son A jury of 7 men and 5 women in the 405th District Court found Raymond Moore Jr not guilty in the murder of his son, Raymond Moore III. Moore Jr, 56, was the man accused of shooting and killing his son, Raymond Moore III, 32, on March 29, 2020. At about 6:40 PM on March 29, 2020, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2600 block of Avenue D in Dickinson on reports of gunshots. Reports said that multiple witnesses heard 2 people arguing in the front yard of a residence which followed with gunshots and a man holding his stomach, according to the probable cause affidavit. The man, later identified as Raymond Moore III, suffered 2 gunshot wounds and was transported to Clear Lake Regional Hospital where he died. His father, Raymond Moore Jr was taken into the custody of the Galveston County Jail. Since December 8, 2020, he had been out on a $100,000 bond. The trial began on Wednesday (1/17/2024), where he faced the murder charge in the 405th District Court with Judge Jared Robinson. Closing arguments came Friday (1/19/2024) afternoon. Moore Jr’s court appointed lead defense attorney Jessica Ebbs argued that Moore III was aggressive to his dad, on that day and multiple other occasions. Lead prosecutor Raneca Henson pointed at Moore Jr and told the jury, “this man shot his own son, who had the same name.” She argued this was not a case of self defense, because Moore III did not show that he was a physical threat to his dad, Moore Jr. On Monday (1/22/2024), the trial picked back up and the jury returned a verdict of not guilty.
