Friendswood teen murder suspect posts $1 million bail, released from jail with conditions Connor Hilton, the 17-year-old Friendswood boy accused of murdering one of his friends and critically wounding another, was released on bail from the Galveston County Jail on Wednesday (1/3/2023). Hilton is accused of opening fire and killing Ethan Riley, 18, and critically wounding Ben Bilek, 20, on Dec. 23. Hilton in the Galveston County Jail on charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was being held on $1 million bond for murder after initially posting bond for $1 million for the two aggravated assault charges. Riley died a day after the shooting, while Bilek remains in critical condition at the hospital. Hilton's attorney J.L. Carpenter said she worked with prosecutors and a judge to have Hilton released so he could continue to see a therapist. She arrived at the jail shortly before 5 PM on Wednesday and escorted her client to a waiting car just after 6 PM. Neither she nor Hilton had any comment about the release. Galveston County District Attorney Jack Roady noted that because Hilton doesn’t face a capital murder trial and has no criminal record, the law requires a bond be set. In this case with some very specific conditions. Those include wearing a “GPS monitoring device; remaining at his new residential address except for doctor's appointments and legal appointments; surrendering his passport; not accessing any social media; not coming closer than 1,000 feet of any premises where children commonly gather; not communicating with the surviving victims or their families; not coming closer than 200 yards of the surviving victims or their families; not possessing a firearm; not consuming alcohol, drugs, or marijuana; and not violating any state, federal, or other law,” Roady said. Before the release, Carpenter said Hilton would not be returning home but staying with relatives at an undisclosed location in Harris County. She confirmed that Hilton was under a therapist's care before the shootings. She did not know why he was seeing a therapist before.
