Stolen truck police chase ends with crash in La Marque • Suspect, police officer bitten by K9 officer UPDATE 4:06 PM: Texas City and La Marque police on Wednesday (12/20/2023) were involved in a short high-speed chase of a stolen pickup truck. It was just before 2 PM when Texas City officers tried to pull over a white GMC pickup that was reported stolen out of Galveston. The truck was picked up on a flock camera, Texas City Police Sgt. Allen Bjerke said. A 17-year-old male suspect driving the stolen vehicle led police from Texas City into La Marque and at one point, slammed into the gate and part of the fence of the USA RV Park, 4313 FM 2004 in La Marque. The pursuit also went through the parking lot of the Walmart on Interstate 45 at FM 1764 in La Marque. The suspect crashed the truck on Mitchell Lane near FM 2004 before jumping out and taking off on foot. The suspect ran to an area behind the Texas Department of Transportation office between Mitchell and I-45 in La Marque. Eventually, he was captured by a Texas City Police Department K9 officer. The suspect and an officer were each bitten by the K9 during the takedown, Bjerke said. Both had minor injuries, Bjerke said. The suspect was in custody by 2:20 PM. Bjerke said the 17-year-old could face charges of Unauthorized Use of a Motorized Vehicle, Felony Evading with a Vehicle and Evading On-Foot. Texas City PD did not provide the suspect’s name as they are still confirming his age and identity.
