NASA Johnson Space Center selects CCISD student’s design for HERA missions patch A campaign patch designed by a freshman at Clear Lake High School in CCISD will be used for all 4 NASA HERA missions. The Human Exploration Research Analog (HERA) is a 650-square-foot habitat. It is designed for a long-duration spaceflight mission, like a mission to Mars. Baylee Barnwell, 15, was the winner of the HERA C7 Campaign Patch Challenge hosted by Space Center Houston and NASA Johnson Space Center. Her design was one of about 60 total entries. Barnwell’s patch design will represent all 4 HERA missions. She had just a couple weeks to create the piece. However, she only needed a couple of days to come up with her creation. “It really means a lot to me,” Barnwell said. Her interest about space derived from learning about mars at NASA space camp. She was given an exclusive tour of the HERA habitat Friday (12/1/2023) morning with her family. Clear Lake High School students were also given the opportunity to see it through a livestream, Friday (12/1/2023) morning.
