Tortoise reunited with owner after straying away from home on Wednesday UPDATE at 2:30 PM (9/28/2023): The owner claimed the tortoise. They noticed it’s disappearance about 3 PM Wednesday (9/27/2023) and claimed it Thursday afternoon. Apparently, the tortoise was not far from it’s home, as it traveled about a block away. ••••• Late Wednesday (9/27/2023) morning, an African Spurred Tortoise was found on the loose in Texas City. It was then brought to the Galveston County Animal Resource Center, where they hope an owner comes to claim it. On average, the center will have about 4 lost tortoises show up yearly, Galveston County Animal Resource Center’s Director of Animal Services Monique Ryans said. Most are found in the Texas City area. The tortoise was found in the area of 23rd and 1st Avenue North in Texas City by animal services. She said a social media post they made had a lot of attention, but no one claiming the tortoise. Believe this tortoise is yours? Contact Galveston County Animal Resource Center at 409-948-2485.
