Women from League City, Webster killed when SUV slams into tree in west League City UPDATED 10:45 AM Excessive speed likely contributed to a fatal crash that killed two women late Sunday (9/24/2023) on League City’s west side, police said. League City police said a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee was headed north on West Bay Area Blvd. at about 10 PM, and just after passing Lynn Gripon Park, the SUV left the road and slammed into a tree in the median. The SUV hit the tree with enough force to uproot it, snapping it in two with about 2/3 of the tree breaking off and flipped over the SUV. Police believe the Grand Cherokee hit the tree broadside. A large indention from the tree trunk was visible between the driver’s side front and back doors. Both women in the SUV died at the crash scene, League City Police Department Public Information Officer Jose Ortega said. Ortega said the driver was Caitlyn Parrish, 27, of League City. Erica Chambers, 32, of Webster, was the passenger in the vehicle. Ortega said a motorist driving south on Bay Area saw the crash and called 911. A Friendswood Police Department officer who was nearby was the first to the scene and radioed League City about the crash. A man hanging out at the basketball courts at the city park nearby told police he heard the crash and walked up to see what had happened. The area of the crash was right before Clear Creek, the border of Galveston and Harris County. The speed limit along that roadway is 35MPH. That section of the road is not lit and has a slight curve as West Bay Area Blvd approaches the creek and Grissom Road. The League City Crash Reconstruction Team had not confirmed what caused the crash.
