Man arrested after firing shot in a car with child in Texas City • College of the Mainland was put on lockdown A man who was on-the-run from Texas City police after firing a gun in a car with his girlfriend and a child has now been arrested. On Friday, September 1, DeMarcus O’Neil McDowell, 27, was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Endangering a Child with bonds totaling $65,000. He was booked in the Galveston County jail. The shooting happened on at about 8:13 AM on Thursday, August 31 at the Savan Villas, located at 8600 block of the Emmett F. Lowery Expressway. Because of the proximity, College of the Mainland issued a Threat Near By Lockdown. 
Police said that after an argument with his girlfriend, McDowell fired the gun through the windshield, while a young child was in the front seat. When police arrived, McDowell fled on foot. Police searched the area, but could not find him. Even though College of the Mainland was put on lockdown, police said the campus and students were never in danger. The U.S. Marshals Violent Offenders Task Force arrested McDowell at Methodist Hospital at 3:19 PM on Friday, September 1.
