17-year-old dies from injuries after crash splits car in two in League City UPDATE: 7:52 AM A vehicle that police said was speeding through traffic in League City Tuesday (8/8/2023) morning crashed into a strip center parking lot and split in two. The crash happened at about 4:30 AM in the 1100 block of Gulf Freeway northbound in League City. There were teen boys in the white Honda. Two of those were ejected from the vehicle during the crash. All three were transported by ground ambulance to the emergency center at UTMB Health League City Hospital. A 17-year-old boy died at the hospital, police said. An 18-year-old was in critical condition while a 16-year-old suffered a severe concussion, League City Police Department Public Information Officer Jose Ortega said. The identities of those involved were not released by police. Immediate family was notified of the boys’ conditions, Ortega confirmed. Ortega said initial reports indicate the vehicle was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic before the crash. The vehicle hit either a utility pole head on and then spun and hit a concrete support for a light pole sideways with such force as the car was split in two. The engine compartment of the Honda continued another 75 feet in the parking lot of the center that is home to a emergency pet care center, an eye clinic, law office and other small businesses. EMS and Firefighters from transported 3 victims to local hospitals. The League City Police Department CRASH Team arrived at about 5:30 AM and was documenting the scene. The northbound feeder road was closed for about 2 1/2 hours for the crash investigation. The roadway reopened at about 7 AM.
